Obituary: from Find-a-Grave.com
Anna (Wood) Harney was born in Dolky, Ireland [likely Dalkey, Dublin county] on Dec. 10, 1846 and died in Thomson, Ill., January 21, 1930, aged 83 years, 1 month, and 11 days. She married Henry Harney in New York City in 1865. Five children were born into this family; three of them are dead. Two sons remain, Daniel of Thomson, Ill and James of Freeport, Ill. Her husband died in New York City in 1887, leaving her as a widow with three children, one of whom has died since then. After her husband's death she contracted smallox and was taken to an isolation hospital. The children were scattered. Daniel was sent west to Illinois for a home. She came to her son Daniel at McConnell, Ill., in 1899 and the family was reunited. She has lived with her son since then.
She has been a member of the Methodist church about 30 years. She was a firm believer in the presence and help of God. She loved to read her Bible in her old age and spent many profitable hours with it. It was her guide book, her strength and stay. She had a happy sunny disposition and greatly enjoyed the call of friends and neighbors. She was patient with the infirmities of age and saw the bright side of life. Her last years were like the mellow sunset, a ripened soul that had lived through many experiences: a life that looked above and found God as a helper and friend.
