Research Notes

Sarah is noted as "being one of the children and heirs of John Wood late of the county of Shenandoah"[3] in a deed selling lot #10 (spanning 183.5 acres), inherited by Sarah from the estate of her step-mother, and which her father had owned, composing a part of the Blue Ridge tract. Given this note about her step-mother it is not yet well established that Rachel Moody is the biological mother of Sarah and it seems likely that she (Rachel) is merely a step-mother, who is noted as a dower and surviving widow of John Wood.

On 24 March 1835, Sarah (through brother John Wood) sold a tract of land she had inherited (part of Dinah Wood's dower) to Elizabeth P. Wood[4]. In the description of the disposition of the land, it is clear that son John Clevenger had traveled back to Shenandoah County, Virginia to facilitate the sale of the land Sarah had inherited and also to distribute among all of her father's, John Woods', heirs.

When her husband died instate, Sarah gave rights of administration to their son John Clevenger. The inventory is dated 8 Nov 1838 and includes 160 acres, divided into two lots, forming the SW quarter of Section 9, Township 52, Range 29 in Ray County Missouri.

Payments on Richard's debts continue to surface for some time and are paid through 1842 according to Ray County court records. In part these debts appear to have been paid through the sale of parts of this 160 acres, with the contingency that Sarah could continue to use the land through the remainder of her life.

In the above mentioned deed of record, the extent of the estate of (grandfather) Nehemiah Wood Sr. (deceased) is mentioned as including "certain land and negroes bequeathed by said Nehemiah Wood to his widow Dianah Wood."

In "The Clevenger Families of Ray County, Missouri" Sarah is noted as having been born about 1775. FindAGrave[5] and the import to Wikitree both cite 1780 for this date.
