Elizabeth Wood was born 9 January 1681/2 in Newport, Rhode Island, her birth registered by the Friends.[1]

Marriage to Stephen Newby

"At a monthly meting held at ye house of Thomas Shack(?) the __ of ye 7th mo 1703, Stephen Newby & Elizabeth Wood ye second time declared there intentions of taking each other in marridge & the meeting have received satisfaction from ye persons appointed to make enquiroy after there bannes, therefore they give there consent to ye accomplishment of there said marridge according to there conniney & ye good order amongs friends established."[2]

Marriage to John Hugg

"Elizabeth Wood b Jan 9 1681-1682 m first Stephen Newby on Aug own note, Elizabeth m second to John Hugg Dir on July 23, 1714 in Gloucester Co. NJ)."[3]

"At a monthly meeting held at Newton the 13th day of 4th month 1714...
...John Hugg and Elizabeth Newby the
second time presented their intention of marriage with each other.
Enqurie have been made concerning their clearnesse from others in that
respect and of his conversation according to the good order established
among us, and tho(?) being report(?) that divers rumors and accusations
violating conro/eunm(?) said John haveing had to much(?) conversation with
women, which yet is not made proofs of, but inasmuch as ?shove/love? he is worthy of upon himselfe, he hath given sattisfaction pub??oly to the meeting, and the meeting finding nothing but that they are both from other(?) mi resporto to marriage therefore the meeting pou???eth to their acc(?)omplish of their said marriage according to the good order lived(?)
among us, and do appoint Joseph (?)Jasper(?) & Thomas Sharp to attend the said marriage in order as above said, the meeting adjourning to next wa?? t??? ??."

Elizabeth, m. John Hugg in 1714.[4]

Elizabeth had been named executor in her husband's 1722 will, but she predeceased him and his son Gabriel petitioned to serve as executor.
