Biography

As a child she studied at the one-room brick Eight Square School House in Dryden.^[1] Her marriage later to the Quaker Ezra Cornell caused his meeting to disown him, as she was a Methodist. He was a mechanic who credited his wife for his later success in business; he became the founder of Cornell University. Her son Alonzo became governor of New York.
