DEATH. — It is with extreme regret that we have to chronicle the death of another of our old residents, in the person of Mrs. Maria Merrick, relict of the late Joseph Merrick, on the 19th inst. Her descendants reach 157, including 55 great grand children. She was born in Waterloo year (1815) on the Hawkesbury, and consequently was in her 83rd year. She had been a resident of this district for about 55 years, and was previously residing on Liverpool Plains where her husband was employed by Messrs Parnell and Thorley, being among the first white settlers in that portion of the colony. Removed from thence beyond Gunnedah on Namoi, and then back to this district again, where she resided up to the time of her death. She was of a kind and genial disposition, being ever ready to assist those in distress—a very marked trait in all old Hawkesbury natives.
