Richard was born in 1895[1] in Bubwith, Yorkshire, England. He was the son of Richard Woodall and Mary Jane Brown.
At the time of the 1901 census, young Richard was a pauper inmate of the Howden workhouse, along with his older brothers Thomas, Harold and Sydney Woodall.[2]
Richard worked as a beastman for the Buckle family at Manor Farm in Portington, Yorkshire, in 1911.[3]
He enlisted in the Army in Halifax, Yorkshire, and was killed in action in 1918 while serving in the 1st Battalion of the Prince of Wales's Own (West Yorkshire) Regiment.[4]
