Biography

Mary Anne Woodford, daughter of Philip Woodford and Jane Dyer, [1] was born in 1839 in Brighstone, Isle of Wight. [1] She was baptised on 6 October 1839 in Brighstone, Isle of Wight. [1]

She emigrated from England to New Zealand in 1850-1851 with her parents and some siblings, aboard the ship Travancore, which sailed from Gravesend, in Kent, on the 06 Dec 1850, and arrived in Port Lyttleton, New Zealand, on 31 Mar 1851.

In 1853 the Woodford family, left New Zealand for settlement in Australia, sailing aboard the Oceanica including father Philip, mother Jane, and seven children.

Mary is listed on the passenger list of the Oceanica. The Oceanica sailed from Wellington, New Zealand, to Geelong in Port Phillip arriving 30 June 1853. She is listed as Mary and 12 years of age.

In 1886 she married Arthur Brooks. She passed away in 1898, and is interred in the Apsley Cemetery.
