William Woodford was born in about 1834 in Virginia, to George Woodford and Malinda Woodford.[1] He was born in Harrison or Barbour County.[2]
On January 27, 1858, William married Angeline (b. abt 1841 in Harrison County, Virginia) and by 1860 they had a young son, Elam (b. abt 1859 in Gilmer County).[2] The couple resided in Gilmer County as neighbors to Franklin's parents in 1860, and William was farming.ref name = "1860 Census" />
