Pioneer Citizen Passes Away After Long Illness

Cage Woodham, Member Of One Of Alabama's Biggest Families Called By Death

David McCager Woodham, at the age of 63 years, 4 months and 12 days has passed to the great beyond from whence no pilgrim ever returns. The end came Monday night at 7 o'clock after an illness of several months duration.

Mr. Woodham was one of Opp's most respected citizens. He was a member of one of the largest families, if not the largest, in the state. He was a native of this community, having spent his whole life within a short distance of where his body now lies.

He leaves to mourn his death a companion who has been a sharer of all his pleasures and sorrows for 42 years; six children, 5 girls and 1 son; 7 brothers and three sisters, 4 brothers preceded him to the grave.

The children are Mrs. H. C. Tyson, of Opp; Mrs. J. J. Jennings, of Utah, Ala.; Mrs. J. L. Long, of Lamont, Fla.; Mrs. R. W. Corbin, of Athens, Ga.; Mrs. J. M. Graham, of Columbus, Ga.; Mack Woodham, of Opp.

His brothers and sisters living are Joesiah Woodham, of River Ralls, W. A., A. T., M. W., and T. N. Woodham, of Opp; N. A. Woodham of Winter Haven, Fla.; Mrs. A. P. Day, Mrs. N. C. Short, and Mrs. J. T. May, all of Opp.

Besides his brothers, sisters and children, Mr. Woodham leaves 30 grandchildren living, 5 grandchildren dead. Three great-grandchildren are left and one dead.

Mr. Woodham was a life long member of the M. E. Church. His funeral was held at Hickory Grove church of which he was a member at 3:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. The house was packed with relatives and friends of the deceased anxious to pay their last earthly respect. Rev. E. A. Childs, pastor of the Opp Methodist church, Rev. McDurmont, pastor of the Hickory Grove Methodist church, and Rev. J. M. Graham, of Columbus, Ga., spoke befitting words in memory of the deceased brother. The body was then laid to rest in the Hickory Grove Cemetery where it will await the resurrection morning.
