Biography

Floyd Eugene “Ted” Woodin was born November 12, 1906 in Tompkins County, New York. He was the son of John W. Woodin and Minnie (Poole) Woodin. [1]

Ted married Elizabeth B. Odell on April 14, 1926 in Rochester, Monroe County, New York. She was 17, a stenographer, and the daughter of Raymond and Mary Slaughter Odell. He was 21, and a chauffeur. [2]

Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Odell of 316 First street today announced the marriage Wednesday, April 14, at Rochester of their daughter, Elizabeth B. Odell to Floyd E. Woodin, son of Mr. and Mrs John Woodin of 209 Madison street. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Robert Cushman of Rochester. The couple were attended by Miss Myrtle Odell of Rochester and Warren Woodin of this city. The bride was attired in a gown of blue flat crepe with hat to match and carried a bouquet of Butterfly roses and narcissus. Mr. and Mrs. Woodin will make their home in this city. – The Ithaca Journal, Monday, April 19, 1926.

In 1940 they were in Ithaca with two daughters, Mary Elizabeth and Anna Marie. [3] Ted and Elizabeth divorced in 1955.

A final decree of divorce has been granted Mrs. Elizabeth O. Woodin of 216 E. Seneca St. against Floyd E. (Ted) Woodin, also of Ithaca. – The Ithaca Journal, Monday, April 18, 1955.

Ted was a past president of the Veteran Firemen’s Association and active in boxing circles. He died April 1, 1975 in Ithaca, New York. He is buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York. [4]

Floyd Eugene (Ted) Woodin, 68 of 105 N. Aurora St., died unexpectedly Tuesday, April 1, 1975, in the Veteran Volunteer Firemen’s Rooms at 136 E. State St. A retired Postal Clerk, he was at one time, active in boxing circles as a manager, in the Southern Tier. A member of No. 1 Fire Company, he was also a member of Veteran Firemen’s Association, and the Loyal Order of Moose. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Mary) Messenger and Mrs. Donald (Anne) Scaglione, both of Etna; ten grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Ina Romero of Lompoc, Calif., and Mrs. Helena Peterson of Huron, Ohio; a brother, Thomas Woodin of West Dryden; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. – The Ithaca Journal, Wednesday, April 2, 1975.
