John Woodman who married Mary Raynes is John "The Ferryman" Woodman of Portsmouth NH and York/Kittery Maine. My mom is a Woodman and direct descendant of the Ferryman. He was not the son of John and Mary (Field) Woodman as several men deposed on 7 Apr 1702 that John the husband of Jonathan Mendum's widow (Mary Raynes) immigrated to New England on a ship from Newfoundland abt 1688-1689, and had not been in the country before that time (see Province and Court Records of Maine, vol. 4, p. 148, link: www.familysearch.org/library/books/idviewer/193196/228). There is a discussion of this individual and the confusion between him and a John Woodman born 7 Oct 1659 in Eloise Woodman's 1998 book "Descendants of Captain John Woodman: The man from Oyster River", pp. 16-18. Currently, there isn't a known connection between him and the pioneer immigrant Edward Woodman (bef.1606-bef.1692), and we do not know the Ferryman's origins. He lived until at least 29 Mar 1743 when he granted land to his son John Jr. (York Deeds vol. 23, p. 215). The child John Woodman (b. 1696) attached to this profile is also correct for the Ferryman (Kittery vital records 1699-1899, Film # 007595724 > image 13 of 520).

Should the parents on this profile be disconnected? or should I just disconnect Mary the wife and John the child (since John and Mary (Field) did have a son named John Woodman according to Eloise Woodman (1998))? or should I make a new profile? I am new to WikiTree so I am not sure what the best solution is

Thank you -Sophie
