Biography

In 1900 he and his parents and five of his siblings--all but Eliza and Henrietta--lived in a house they owned, with a mortgage, in Minto, ND. His father worked as a carpenter and Lydia as a public school teacher. His father's brother Richard lived next door.

In 1910 he and his parents and three of his siblings lived in a house they were renting at 501 North Fourth Street in Grand Forks, ND. His father worked as a carpenter for a building contractor, Lydia as a stenographer at a department store, he as a general clerk at a department store, William as a manager at a real estate company, and James as a laborer at a printing company.

In 1940 he and his wife lived in an apartment they were renting for $20 a month at 1201 Everett Avenue in Everett, WA. He worked as a carpenter in the building trades, with an income in 1939 of $960 for 24 weeks of work. She worked as a landlady at an apartment house, presumably theirs.
