His father worked as a carpenter for a building contractor, Lydia as a stenographer at a department store, he as a general clerk at a department store, William as a manager at a real estate company, and James as a laborer at a printing company.
In 1940 he and his wife lived in an apartment they were renting for $20 a month at 1201 Everett Avenue in Everett, WA. He worked as a carpenter in the building trades, with an income in 1939 of $960 for 24 weeks of work. She worked as a landlady at an apartment house, presumably theirs.
