William was born in 1891. Son of William G Wood and Mary Selina Tindall. [1]
On 19 May 1915 William George Woods, Church of England, unmarried 24 year old farmer from Cowra, New South Wales, enlisted as a Private with the 18th Battalion, 2nd Reinforcement, Regimental number 1772. Next of kin, mother, Mrs Mary Riley, Cowra, New South Wales.
He embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A61 Kanowna on 19 June 1915. He was Wounded in Action in October 1915 at Gallipoli, gun shot wound to the chest and didn't re-join the AIF until March 1916. He disembarked at Marseilles on 25 March 1916
He was Killed in Action on 4 August 1916.
No known grave, Commemorated at the Australian National Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, France.
