Thomas was probably born in 1764 and christened on 16 Sep 1764 in Ickleford, Hertfordshire with parents Edward and Mary[1] (see research notes for discussion).
Thomas Woods married Ann Davy on 11 Jun 1794 in Baldock, Hertfordshire, England. Their first son, William, was born in Royston, Hertfordshire and christened in Baldock, Hertfordshire. Conversely their son Edward was born in Baldock but christened in Royston. It would appear their family had connections to both areas, which are about 9 miles apart. Like the majority of people in the area at this time, the family were agricultural labourers.
16 Apr 1769 Thomas Wood in Melbourn, Cambridgeshire with parents Thomas Wood and Ann[20]
Ickleford is just 5 miles from Baldock where Thomas was married and is the thus most likely of these christenings to belong to him. Croxton is 22 miles from Baldock and Melbourn is 12 miles away. For this reason, the Ickleford christening has been assumed to be the correct one.
