The introduction to a paper written by one of my Page ancestor's an in 1976 and revised in 1980 gives us a little information about the early history of out family. I quote: (slightly edited)

Ancestors of Grandmother Margaret Elizabeth (Bailey) Page were the "Gibbons" who came to America from England in 1726. The first to come were Charles and John Gibbons. Charles went to the Great Lakes District and John went to the Walkahatche Valley in the Northern part of South Carolina. No specific records have been found, but they returned to England and at a later date returned to the States and brought their families over to the New World. John as born in 1700 in England and his wife was born in Ireland. They were the parents of 3 children prior to their leaving England for the Colonies.

Their daughter, Janie had married James Crawford in England prior to the departure.

Their daughter Elizabeth married Tom Jackson in England. It is not known when the married children came to the Colonies. Elizabeth and Tom were the parents of at least 6 children, 3 sons and 3 daughters. Hugh born in 1760, Robert born in 1763, Andrew born in 1767 (was the 7th President of the United States), and 3 daughters.
