Syracuse Post Standard, March 25 & 26, 2015
Melvin "Bucky" V. Woods, 86, of North Syracuse, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Upstate Hospital at Community General Campus. Melvin was a native of Ogdensburg, NY, and resided in the Syracuse area for most of his life. He was the son of the late Joseph and Alice (White) Woods. Melvin retired in 1990 after 40 years as the owner and president of M.V. Woods Construction Company. He worked on many large projects in the area including the VA Hospital, Macy's in Clay, the Bridgeport Post Office and many local schools. Melvin was a member of the Carpenters' Local Union. He enjoyed in earlier years flying his own plane, hunting, golfing and restoring antique cars.
He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, the former Mary Jean (O'Hare) in November 2014 and by his granddaughter, Kayla Kvapil.
Melvin is survived by six children: Paula Bachman of Cicero, Timothy Woods of Cicero, Maureen (Joseph) Worth of Clay, JoAnne Kvapil of Stuart, FL, Karen Ewald of Mattydale, and Jennifer Smith of Columbus, OH; and by his seven grandchildren: Bryan, Matthew, Steven, Stephanie, Erika, Donovan, and Emily.

Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. A Prayer Service will begin on Saturday, 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret's Church. Burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Liverpool.
