James Richard Woods was born on June 6, 1868 in Bastrop, Texas, United States, son of John Elliott Woods (1832–<1911) and Rosa Arminta Gage (1837–1897).[1]

James (22) married Ida Irene Davis (21) (born on December 11, 1868 in Bastrop County, Texas; daughter of Jonathan Patrick Davis Jr and Mary Ann (Eggleston) Davis) on June 18, 1890 in Bastrop County, Texas. Their son was Oscar Chester Woods (1896–1962).

James died on February 8, 1951 in Dennison, Texas, aged 82.[2]
