GEORGETOWN NEWS Mrs. Mary Ann Smith, a well known pioneer resident of Georgetown, passed peacefully away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Kate Ward, on the 11th, from the infirmities of old age. She was a native of North Carolina, aged 87 years, 1 month and 12 days. Mrs. Smith was the widow of the late Jonathan P. Smith. They were married on September 29, 1850, and in 1862 the family left Iowa for the gold fields of California by way of the overland route, and after a very eventful trip in crossing the plains, they landed in Georgetown, June 5, 1863. Mrs. Smith was the mother of seven children, but only two survive her. They are James M. Smith and Mrs. Kate Ward of this place. And also a number grandchildren.
