Mary Woodson was born about 1736 in Virginia Colony [now United States]. Her mother was Mary Miller who married John Woodson on 10 August 1731 in Lancaster County, Virginia. Mary'smother's parents are thought to be John and Margaret Miller of Lancaster.[1]
On 18th September 1752, in Cumberland County, Francis McCraw took out a marriage bond to marry Mary Woodson, "spinster daughter of John Woodson" with Thompson Swann as his security. The witnesses to the bond were G. [Gideon] Marr and John Woodson. A copy of this is on file at the Virginia State Library & Archives.[2][3][4]
They farmed their land in Goochland County, Virginia, and raised their children:

Mary was named in her husband's will as "Executrix" and sole heir of his property (excepting one slave bequeathed to their daughter, Elizabeth Pittman) as long as she remained a widow.[5]
