WOODWARD—PILCHER. A wedding more than ordinary interest to East Harbour Wellington residents, owing to the popularity of the couple taking part, and the prominent position occupied by the bride's father in local public affairs, was solemnised at St. Alban's Church, Eastbourne, on Thursday afternoon, the parties being Miss Thelma Irene Pilcher, elder daughter of Mr T. W. Pilcher, J.P„ and Mrs Pilcher, of "Godalming," Konim-street, Eastbourne, and Mr Matthew Francis Woodward, M.A., F.R.E.S., assistant master of Croydon School, Day's Bay, elder, son of Mr and Mrs M. J. Woodward, of Christchurch. The Rev. R. H. Hobday, M.A., principal of Croydon School, officiated, assisted by the Rev. O. M. Stent, M.A., vicar of Eastbourne. The church was crowded with guests and friends, and the service was fully choral, several of the boys of Croydon forming the choir, while Mr H. L. Whiteman presided at the organ. The church was tastefully decorated by the Croydon boys, and a large bell composed of chrysanthemums was hung over the chancel steps. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a charming dress of white satin charmeuse, with panels, and trimmed with pearls. She also wore a veil of tulle, (kindly lent by a friend), mob-cap fashion, with a circlet of orange blossoms, and carried a beautiful shower bouquet of white roses and chrysanthemums. The bridesmaid was Miss Consuelo Pilcher (sister of the bride), who wore a dress of white silk, trimmed with silk lace, and large white picture hat. Mr W. H. E. McMillan acted as best man. The wedding presents, which were numerous and costly, included several cheques and a crystal and silver epergne, presented by the, principal and staff of Croydon School, and a dinner service presented by the boys. The bride and bridegroom left for the South Island for their honeymoon, the bride's travelling attire being a navy blue tailored costume and a navy panne velvet hat. When Mr. and Mrs Woodward return from their honeymoon, which is being spent in the South Island, they will proceed to Napier, where Mr Woodward will take up his new position of assistant master at the Napier Boys' High School.
