Biography
The son of Willard Woodard and Charlotte (Buchinger) Woodward, Lavern was born in Rochester in 1915. His parents returned to his father's family home in Clinton by 1920.[1] The Great Depression took hold of the country and his parents moved to Detroit where his father found work as a leather inspector in an automobile factory.[2]
Lavern married Florence (Sanders) Terpeney, the daughter of Lewis M. Sanford and Susie H. Marshall, in Addison Township, Michigan on October 28, 1939. He was 24 and worked as a spinner at the woolen mill and she was 26, and not working.[3] They divorced the next year, the divorce being final on June 28, 1940.[4] By 1940, he was living with family, back in Clinton, and everyone was working at the local woolen mill.[5]
He married again, marrying Angie (Baker) Woodward, the daughter of Benjamin Baker and Miadh Grant, in Ann Arbor, Michigan on June 26, 1942.[6] Later that year, Lavern enlisted in the United State Army, enlisting on November 23, 1942 for the duration of the war.[7] Lavern and Angie had three sons together, Willard "Bud" Woodard, Donald Woodard, and Stanley Woodard. Willard worked as an inspector at Tecumseh Products Company in Tecumseh, Michigan.[8]
Angie passed away in 1965 and Willard remarried, marrying Ruby (Towns) Woodward, the daughter of Victor Towns and Libbie C. Elmer. She had been married previously to Alfred G. Parrish (1915-1966). Ruby passed away in 1975.[8] Willard passed away at the age of 78[9][10] and is buried at Riverside Cemetery in Clinton.[11]
