William Frederick Woodward was born on 16 May 1844 at Wednesbury, Staffordshire, England, United Kingdom.[1] He was the son of Francis Woodward, Gentleman.
He served in the 68th (Durham) Regiment of Foot[2] and held the ranks of:
Lieutenant-Colonel and Colonel has been placed on retired pay. 29 Ocotber 1889.[8]
He arrived in New Zealand with his regiment in 1864 and departed in 1866. He served in the New Zealand Wars.[9]
After the New Zealand Wars he continued with the 68th regiment and travelled to India.[10]
In 1873 he played football for Northumberland.[11]
He married Annie Chadwick, daughter of John Cadwick, manufacturer on 16 November 1876 at St Jmes, Pendleton, Lancashire, United Kindom. He was a Captain in the 68th (Durham) Regiment of Foot.[12]
He died on 18 Dec 1920 at Westminster, Middlesex, England, United Kingdom.[13]
