Biography

On Christmas Eve, 1927, David Dorrence Woody and Mamie Lois Woody were blessed with the gift of their first child, their beautiful Mamie Jo Woody. She left this world on Christmas Eve, 2004 to be with her Heavenly Father and His Son.

Jo was born in Jackson, Tennessee as the daughter of a Church of Christ preacher. She was the oldest of 3 children. A sister named Martha Belle "Boppie" and a brother named John David. She had a blessed life with her family in Tennessee as her father spread the gospel in the course of his ministry throughout the region. During this time she was loved by many friends and left a positive impression wherever she lived.

She was attending college at Harding College in Searcy, Arkansas when she met the love of her life and husband of nearly 57 years, Harold Reynolds "Red" Hart. They were married Dec. 22, 1946 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Over the next 12 years they were blessed with 3 daughters, Dianne, Connie and Sandy. She moved with "Red" many times as his occupation transferred him throughout the states of Oklahoma, New Mexico and Texas. They retired in Midland and made this their home for the past 35 years.

During these years Jo created a warm and inviting Christian home for her husband and children. The atmosphere she created for the Hart family made her the "Heart of the Harts". She was an inspiration and comfort to her 3 daughters. She was always there for them and knew all the right words to say. She had a loving and tender heart for her 5 grandchildren. She was a fine Christian woman, daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She never met a stranger, as they were her future friends. She was a fun, feisty and fascinating lady. She leaves behind the legacy as a fine, understanding and attentive friend. She will be missed.

Jo and Red were charter members of Fairmont Park Church of Christ in 1981. Red was a deacon for many years at Fairmont Park and Jo stood by his side as his helpmate. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years. Jo left her mark and presence at Fairmont Park.

Jo was preceded in death by her husband Red Hart on October 7, 2003, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D.D. Woody, and her brother, John David Woody.

Jo is survived by her three daughters, Dianne Garret and her son Josh Garrett of Midland; Connie Gaultney and her husband Kent Gaultney of Midland and their two children, Nicholas Gaultney and his wife Susan of Nashville, Tennessee and Rebecca Gaultney of Lubbock; Sandra Boyd and her husband Alan Boyd and their 2 children, Trevor and Gavin Boyd of Midland. She is also survived by her sister, Martha Woody Bush and her husband Lloyd Bush of Orlando, Florida and 6 nieces and several grand nieces and nephews.

Funeral services have been scheduled for Monday, December 27, 2004 at Fairmont Park Church of Christ at 2:00 pm with Scott Sheppard officiating. Interment will be at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
