Hazel Verda Brumfield was born in Guyan Township, Ohio. Her birth registration lists her birthdate as March 18, 1901[1], but she was listed on the 1900, where her birthdate is given as March, 1899. Also, Perry was born in June, 1901, so the 1899 birthdate is probably correct for Hazel. She was the daughter of Sloan Brumfield and Mary Farley.
At the time of the 1900 U.S. Census, Sloan (mistranscribed as "Slader"), Mary E, Birtha, Bettie, Pearl, Dora B, Gideon, Grace, Mahalia, and Hazel Brumfield were listed as living in Guyan Township, Ohio[2].
At the time of the 1910 U.S. Census, Sloan, Mareetta, Bettie, Dora B, Gideon, Gael, Mahala, Hazel, Perry, John A, and Sanford Brumfield were listed as living in Guyan Township, Ohio, along with Sloan and Mary's granddaughter Mary N Brumfield[3].
Hazel married Walter Woodyard in Gallia County, Ohio on July 29, 1914[4].
At the time of the 1920 U.S. Census, Walter E, Hazel B, Magdeline B, and George E Woodyard were listed as living in Guyan Township[5].
At the time of the 1930 U.S. Census, Walter E, Hazel, George T, Hollis M, and Hildred Woodyard were listed as living in Guyan Township[6].
At the time of the 1940 U.S. Census, Walter, Hazel, Hollis, Hildred, Junior, Gene, Joan, Harlow, and George Woodyard were listed as living in Guyan Township[7].
Hazel died in 1988, and was buried in Crown City Cemetery, Crown City, Ohio[8].
