Notes for Franklin McGuire

CORR: 2004 Jan 29 from Rita Ray Subject: [WOOLSEY] Woolseys in Madison Co., Iowa, 1860

Ancestry.com every-name index for the Iowa 1860 census, I searched for Sarah (Clifford) Woolsey. I think that the Sarah Woolsey in the following household is Sarah (Clifford) Woolsey. Her daughter, Patsy Jane, married (1) Jesse Goodrich and (2) Frank McGuire. Who are William J. and James P.?

CENSUS 1860: Montpelier, Crawford Township, Madison County, Iowa. page 111, McGuire, Franklin, 28, male, farmer, 200, 200, Missouri McGuire, Elizabeth, 30, female, Indiana McGuire, Sarah Mc, 14, female, Arkansas McGuire, Martha A., 10, female, Arkansas Woolsey, Sarah, 66, female, Kentucky Woolsey, William J., 16, male, Kentucky Woolsey, James P., 14, male, Kentucky

I checked online for information about Franklin McGuire and found a website posted by Julie Dalton which indicated that Franklin McGuire married Jane Goodrich in 1890. There was also a website posted by David Bays which indicated that the marriage to Jane Goodrich was Franklin's second marriage, and that his two wives were sisters (determined from Franklin's obituary.) A site posted by Karen Robb indicate that Franklin married Phoebe Woolsey Brathryl on January 18, 1855, in Lehigh, Webster Co., Iowa. Does anyone have information that will help determine if Elizabeth is also the daughter of George and Sarah Woolsey? - Rita Ray

Rita - The above information regarding Franklin McGuire is not related to Phoebe Woolsey Brathryl who married Francis McGuire on 18 January 1855 in Lehigh, Webster County, Iowa. Franklin was a son of Francis and his first wife Rebecca Jane Tarwater. Franklin married a Mrs. Elizabeth McDonald on 27 Feb 1853 in Boone County, Iowa. - Cheryl Krause

I have this name in my family line as well. However, my family history states that Phoebe was married to Francis McGuire (b. 1800) and was his 2nd wife. According to my Great grandfather, Phoebe was his father's mother.
