Biography

Charles was the son of Thomas Word and Justianna Dickinson. [1]

Per James Dickinson Word, Charles married in Georgia and had one son named Thomas, although James did not know where he was. Charles died in Whitfield County, near Dalton, Georgia.

While most family trees have his birth year of 1805, according to James Word, his brothers order of birth was Martin, himself, Thomas, William, Charles and Cuthbert. Going on this, Charles' birth year would be closer to 1812. Thomas was born in 1805; and from Word research, Thomas and Justianna did not have twins.

Research Notes

Much of this information came from the writings of James Word. Mary Florence Arthur Word wrote a book on her father-in-law, John Bryson Word, which, in addition to information on John, included information on other Word family members. Taken from page 22: The following material was written by James Word, December 23, 1882. James was about 85 years old at the time of this writing. He was a first cousin of John Bryson Word. His wife, Amelia Hooper, was a half first cousin of John Bryson Word. The foregoing genealogy is a longer version of the material that was dictated to Mrs. Elizabeth Amelia Price of Iuka, Miss. This material appears to be a compilation of letters that he wrote to family members plus his family history. Material in parenthesis is where there is a difference in the three versions that have been made available to me. Except for the name of his great grandfather, this material seems to correspond with other sources and helps to establish where various branches of the Word family were living during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
