THE EVENING HERALD, KLAMATH FALLS, OREGON MAY 24, 1911 SIKES WORDEN PASSES BEYOND
One of the Best Known Settlers of Klamath County,Breathes His Last At His Home At Brooks.
News has just been received from Brooks, Marion County, Oregon, announcing the death near that place, about the 20th instant, of Sikes Worden, a man well known to all the old settlers in Klamath County, and prominent in the early days as a business man and citizen. Sikes Worden was born in the state of Illinois, about 1848, hence was about 63 years of age at the time of his death. He came to Klamath Agency in June 1870, from Idaho. He and an elderly man named M.P. Crapo, with whom he became acquainted in the Idaho mines, came directly across the vast unsettled region between Snake River and the Klamath country, and secured employment at the Agency, the first work of Sikes Worden being to assist in hewing the timber for the sawmill at that place. He was a genial young fellow of good ability, six feet two inches in height, and finely proportioned. His genial disposition and capability soon won him many friends, and he was promptly promoted in the service and acted with marked ability as superintendent of farming on the Klamath reservation for several years, this period embracing the troubled era of the Modoc war, during which time his influence, with the Indians was of great value, and he served for a considerable time on guard duty at Yainax sub-Agency, where several hundred Indians of different tribes were located, and careful management was necessary to maintain status quo. In the year 1876 Mr. Worden, having resigned from the Indian service, purchased the interest of George Nurse, the pioneer merchant in the mercantile firm of Nurse & Thatcher at Linkville (now Klamath Falls). The firm of Thatcher & Worden did a large business for several years, during which time Sikes Worden became widely known as a genial business man and progressive citizen to almost everybody in the Klamath country. In 1881 the firm sold out the business in Klamath Falls to Reames & Martin and Mr. Worden became post trader at Fort Klamath, a position he filled until he was compeled to retire from active work on account of physical disability, ocaissioned by rheumatism, with which malady he had been troubled many years. He became practically helpless some twenty years ago, and it has always been a marvel to his friends that through these many years of helplessness and pain, Sikes Worden maintained a cheerful temperament, and kept informed intelligently on all the current events of the day. He was a most generous and companionable man, and his friend throughout the country, who have so long sorrowed for his misfortunes, will always remember him as one of the rarest of men and most generous of friends. Sikes Worden was married to Miss Kate Person at Naylox, in Klamath county in the year 1880. The fruit of this union was a daughter, now Mrs. Minnie Gouley at whose house Mr. Worden died. He was the son of Thomas and Mariah Worden.

I hope that you check out my changes and additions to this family. Mostly our sources are in close agreement, but not always. I waited until you merged the parents before I did anything with the children. You may want to change some formatting, etc. I have no real desire to share management, but I'm entering all the profiles from the History of Ogle County, Illinois, 1878, that have enough information to do so.
I hope that this is agreeable to you.
