William was born in 1819 in New Jersey, United States.
He was the son of William Wordsworth and Catherine Morgan.
He married first Ann Fogg. He married second Nancy Ann Vance; they had six children. He married third Martha Streper. He married fourth Nellie Grlfflth.

William traveled to the valley in Brigham Young's 1847 company and was part of the 6th Company of Ten led by Charles Shumway. At various times in his life, particularly in Nauvoo, his surname was spelled in sources as "Wordsworth." In Utah, it was spelled "Wadsworth" in the census, obituary, property list, and numerous newspaper articles. His gravestone shows his surname as "Wordsworth." In 1856 he was a returning missionary.
He passed away in 1888 in the Utah Territory, United States.
