Our Pioneer Heritage Vol 1, Brigham Young His Wives and Family
Miriam Works was the first wife of Brigham Young. They were married before Brigham embraced the Mormon teachings and joined the Church. They were members of the Methodist Church.
Miriam was a most estimable woman, devoted to the Mormon religion, an affectionate wife and loving mother. She was a kind and faithful friend to all who had the honor of her acquaintance. She died of the dreaded scourge, tuberculosis, in 1832 at the home of Heber C. Kimball in Mendon, New York.
Birth: Jun. 7, 1806 Aurelius Cayuga County New York, USA Death: Sep. 8, 1832 Mendon Monroe County New York, USA
Miriam was the first wife of Brigham Young.
Someone wrote me saying: "Your photo identified as Miriam Works Young is misleading and incorrect. Miriam Works Young died in 1832, but photography wasn't invented until well after she died."
The photo he is talking about was a picture of a tombstone put up by relatives in the year mentioned. No one should think that the picture was taken in 1832. The relatives wanted to leave a remembrance of Miriam Young many years after her death. This is often done.
