John was born on September 19, 1926, in Island Heights, Ocean, New Jersey. He was christened on October 21, 1926 at "St. Philips Church", Island Heights, Ocean, New Jersey, His God parents were his Howard L. Britton and Sara Edmonds. He served in the "United States Navy",as a "Cee Bee", serial #771 30 62. During WWII he served in the South Pacific. He learned a trade he used his entire life. He belonged to "Operating Engineers union Local # 825", Newark, Essex, New Jersey from 1940 until retiring after 50 years of service.
While employed he worked on many construction projects including the building of the "New Jersey Turnpike"," Newark International Airport" and the "Verrazano Narrows Bridge" that joins New Jersey to New York.
Being in construction and would be sent out on snow removal during the off winter season, Before coming home he would call mom to make sure the shoveling was done. At the beginning of our family dad only had three girls. So of course I went hunting, fishing and shot archery with him.
