Biography

Rebecca was born in 1870 to John Wray and Mary Pomphrey. She passed away in 1891.

"John Wray came from England as early as 1829, and bought the east half of Lot 1, Concession 9 from James Armstrong. He cleared the land of virgin forest. John died in 1846 and his wife, Rebecca Marr, in 1863. They were buried in a family plot on the farm. The farm was taken over in 1854 by their son, John, Jr., who was twice married, first to Grace Harland, then to Mary Pumphrey. He had two children by his first wife -- Mary (Mrs. William Smith) and John --- and ten by his second wife -- Grace (Mrs. Jonathan Ellerby), William, Harriet, George, Elizabeth (Mrs. Charles Gardhouse), Martin, Rebecca, Sarah (Mrs. Neil McCallum), Annie, and Vina (Mrs. Elmer McCallum)." ^[1]
