1881 census aged 56, unmarried, solicitor, living at Grove House, Leyburn with two servants.

1891 census aged 66, unmarried, solicitor, in Leyburn with brother James and two servants.

Executor to James who died 1894 and to Sophia who died 1889.

From the York Herald Tuesday 14th June 1892 - Mr George W Wray, of Leyburn states that on Thursday his thermometer registered 87 degrees in the shade. This degree has not been reached since 1878. On Friday the thermometer fell rapidly, and it was positively cold out of doors.

Address at death given as of Leyburn, Yorks. Probate May 1895 granted to the surviving executor John Richard Pickard. Gross value of estate £1383 3s 7d. His will was dated 23 Apr 1885. He appointed his brother James Wray and his cousin John Richard Pickard as executors. He gave his professional books and papers and such books from his law library as required to his cousin John Richard Picard. He was at pains to ensure that his solicitors practice was not sold on but that everything was disposed of. Residue to his brother James (who predeceased him), or to his cousin John Richard Picar, apart from a few pecuniary bequest to servants, friends or children of friends. He was apparently determined that his cousin George Octavius Wray, or any of his descendants, would not benefit by naming the daughters of the late Thomas Picard (Mary Jane , the wife of Eustace Carey and Emma Thomasina Picard) to inherit in the event of the early demise of John Richard Picard.
