Biography
Anthony Wren was born at Sherburn, Billy Hall or Binchester in Durham, properties of the Wren family. He was the eldest son and heir of William Wrenne and Margaret Simpson.
In 1557, he married Elizabeth Wandesford, daughter of Christopher Wandesford of Kirklington, Yorkshire.[1]
Anthony and Elizabeth had at least two sons and two daughters:
The pedigree by Hodgson also lists Elizabeth Wren, wife of Brian Downes of Evenwood, as a daughter of Anthony Wren and his wife Elizabeth but it is in brackets so may not be certain.
Anthony Wren died in 1595 and was buried on 11 November in Bishop Auckland. The burial record states that he was "of Binchester".
Research Notes
Pedigree of Wrenne of Binchester in Visitations of Durham is incorrect as it has skipped a generation and listed Peregrina Fetherstonhaugh as the wife of Lynley Wren rather than Charles Wren. Hodgson has addressed this issue in North County Diaries.
