Retired environmental geologist; working primarily in Alaska since 1981; Raised mostly in Massachusetts with elementary school years in Ohio; have also lived in New Hampshire (Lebanon area) and Vermont (Montpelier area). University of Massachusetts Amherst class of 1978.
Had always heard from mother's side of family that we were descended from John/Priscilla Alden and Myles Standish. My grandmother had a hand-written piece of paper that traced the line (no idea what became of that paper!). I have since traced numerous lines to Mayflower, with a documented lineage through my father to Aldens, and am in process of documenting my maternal line.
Researching great grandparents Wren(n) from Bandon, Cork, Ireland and Currie from Liverpool, England.

Now that you have had a little time to try our site, there are a few more features you may find useful:
For instance, ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards; including some tips on writing biographies
Also a friendly reminder about adding sources and references to your profile. Sources are critically important for genealogy and you will be helping future genealogists by listing where the information you've added came from. This page describes different kinds of sources: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Sources
If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
You are now a confirmed member of WikiTree .
WikiTree members are always happy to offer guidance if you have questions so if you need to ask for help. And our Mentors Project has a very friendly bunch of volunteers happy to help with WikiTree-specific issues. And Please check out our question of the week: Have you discovered or uncovered a fact you were once a bit hesitant to share?
Have fun and see you in the branches!

A warm welcome to the Wikitree Family. By now you will have received an email with useful links to get you started. Take your time and browse the site to see what Wikitree has to offer.
Wikitree is different, because we have one goal: To have one big Global tree. This means we have one profile per person, and we collaborate as one big team.
When you confirm your email address, you will have the opportunity to volunteer by adding tags to your profile. These should contain what interests you in your genealogy: surnames, locations, etc.
A Greeter will then confirm your membership, and you will be able to start adding your information.
We are all volunteers here and happy to help if you need it.
I look forward to seeing you in the tree :)
Happy researching
Wendy
