I have some information on the Sockwell/Treadwell connection. I am the ggggrand-daughter of

William Sockwell born about 1780 in Somerset County, Maryland. He died about 1860 in Newton County, Georgia.He was a farmer and Merchant at family store called "Sockwell Corners".

His father is believed to be George Lance Sockwell and his mother was Mary Jane ?.

William Sockwell married 10 September 1799 in Guilford County, North Carolina. His wife was Elizabeth Lokey, born about 1791 and died after 1860.

Their children were

1) John Sockwell born 3 April 1806 in Jackson County, Georgia and died 7 February 1882 in Newton County, Georgia.

He married Julia F. Treadwell 28 February 1837 in Newton County, GA. She was born 23 May 1821, and died 15 December 1861, Newton County, GA.(This is my family).

He married #2 Lucinda Wright 8 February 1865 in Newton County, and

  1. 3 Laura Ann Wiley before 1869.

2) Sarah Frances Sockwell born about 1808 in Jackson County, GA, she died about 1845 Newton County, GA. She married Asa Powell on 18 January 1837 in Newton County, GA.

3) Mary Sockwell born about 1810 in Jackson County, GA was Married toWilliam Anderson 23 February 1835 Newton County, GA.

4) Elizabeth S. Sockwell born about 1815 in Jackson County, GA married 25 March 1846 Asa Powell, the husband of her sister Sarah Frances.

5) Lucinda Sockwell born about 1817 in Jackson County, GA died about 1886.

6) Joseph Sockwell born about 1819 in Jackson County, GA died 11 December 1897 in Newton County, Georgia.He married Nancy Treadwell 13 October 1842 in Newton County, Georgia. Nancy was born about 1826, died 11 January 1904 in Newton County, GA.

7) James W. Sockwell born about 1820 in Jackson County, Georgia died about 1860 in Newton County, Georgia.He married Lucinda Treadwell on 1 April 1847 in Newton County, Georgia. She was born about 1829.

8) William Sockwell, Jr. was born about 1822 and he married Mary Frances Shanks on 10 March 1850 in Newton County, Georgia.

9) Thomas Sockwell born about 1825, married 11 March 1842 in Newton County, Marthenia Powell.She was the daughter of Asa Powell and his 1st wife who is not known..

10) Cyrus Clifford Sockwell born about 1826 and died about 1860.
