Henry was born in Taranaki NZ. He worked as a carter and resided in Devon Street there in 1905 before emigrating to Australia. Henry possibly entered Australia via working on ships prior to 1907 when he arrived in Brisbane and met Rebecca Warren Johnstone whom he married shortly after. 1908 he resided at Rosst St Newstead Qld with wife and son Alfred and worked as a carter for a bakery. 1913 after Clara and John were born they moved to Prospect St Bowen Hills and Henry worked for the Bulimba Brewing Company as a drayman.
Henry enlisted in the army 31 August 1915 and commenced training as an air mechanic. The family relocated to Edgar Street Bowen Bridge in 1916 and Henry was sent off to war. His enlistment records show him as being a Methodist, 5"4' Blue eyes, fair hair. 1916 admitted to hospital with the mumps 1917 Wounded in France - left arm 1917 Promoted to Corporal 1918 wounded - right arm Repatriation proceeded November 1919 Henry was discharged 10 Jan 1920
The family shows as living at 48 John Street Windsor in 1936 on the electoral roll. Henry was an insurance superintendent up until he died in 1947
