Betsy was the twin of Polly Wright. Polly and Betsy are the names used in their birth record in the Coventry town records. I can speculate that their formal first names were Elizabeth and Mary. At the time they were born, nicknames were often used.
Family tradition says that Betsy was a dwarf. Several pieces of furniture, which were supposed to have been hers, have been passed down in the family. These were scaled for a very small child - about 2 years old, perhaps an indication of her size.
A series of letters written to Betsy also survive.
