Biography

John Wright was the son of Deacon John and Priscilla Wright.[1][2] Based on John's epitaph, quoted below, he was born about 1630/1. He was perhaps born in England.[3][4] His "Find A Grave" Memorial cites a birthplace of Charlestown, Massachusetts.[5] Charlestown records do cite the birth of John Wright, son of John and Priscilla Wright, however his birth date is given as "27 (7) 1646" [September 27, 1646 (N.S.)], which disagrees with his stated age at death of 83 in 1714.[6]

John Wright and Abigail "Warin" were married at Chelmsford, Middlesex, Massachusetts, on May 10, 1661. [7]

In 1671, John, and other members of the Woburn church, were prosecuted by the grand jury of Middlesex for refusing communion with that church and having "Baptist sentiments." He was a selectman of Woburn in 1690, and tithingman for the "Boggy Meadow End" part of Woburn in 1692. [1] [2]

John Wright, Sr. died in Woburn, Massachusetts, on April 30, 1714, at about the age of 83. He was buried at the First Burial Ground in Woburn. (The burial record states that he was the son of Deacon John and Priscilla Wright.) His gravestone reads: [1] [8] [2]

HERE LYES THE
BODY OF Mr
JOHN WRIGHT
WHO DECEASED
APRIL Ye 30, 1714
IN THE 83rd YEAR
OF HIS AGE.

Will

The will of John Wright, Senior, of Woburn, dated May 24, 1701, and proved November 11, 1714, names his wife Abigail; sons John Wright, Jr., Joseph and Ebenezer Wright, all three living in Chelmsford; his son Josiah Wright, living in Woburn; his four daughters, Ruth Butterfield, Priscilla Wright, Deborah Wright and Lydia Wright, "youngest daughter." His wife Abigail and son Josiah were named executors. [1]

Shouldn't he be known as John Wright III. That's how it works out...Just saying... :-)
Wright-2418 and Wright-4985 appear to represent the same person because: These have the same wife, same daughter and same death. John's epitaph says he was 83, so he was born about 1730. Please merge. If you can't reconcile the birth place, please merge and put a note in the Biography. Thanks.
