Biography

James was born in 1783. He is the son of Joseph Wright and Mary Unknown. [1]

James is the son of Joseph and Mary Wright. He died in Choctaw County, Alabama; but it is not known where he may be buried. He served in the War of 1812 as his widow, Susan Bain, received a pension.

Notes

His middle initial may be M or D. [see following for explanation] James M. Wright is recorded as living in Fayette County, Alabama, in 1832, when his land grant in the Choctaw Indian Cession of 1832 was recorded in the Tuscaloosa Land Record Office. Another grant in 1836 was recorded to a Henry Wright, possibly the cousin of James. Apparently, at the same time that James M. Wright was in Fayette County, Alabama, a James D. Wright was recorded in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. Whether James M. Wright and James D. Wright are the same person or two different people cannot at this time be assessed, as siblings of James emigrated to that Alabama county. James Wright filed a pension application as a Veteran of the War of 1812. At the time his second son was born, the only child born in Tennessee, James had been discharged at Hazel Green, Alabama.

However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
