Biography

I, Charles Wright, was born on October 16, 1946 in Huguley, Alabama in the house that my father had built the year before. I lived at this location until I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Auburn University in December, 1969. I went to Lanett Kindergarten, Huguley Elementary school and graduated from Valley High School (1965) in Fairfax (now part of Valley, AL). First job from college was at Russell Mills (textiles) in Alexander City, AL. Worked there 11 years and moved to Taylors, SC to work for J.P. Stevens, Inc. (also, textiles). Worked there 4 years and then became an Information Technologies contractor. Worked at a number of companies and locations for the next 22 years. Tired of travel and took a permanent position with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama for 6 years before retirement. Along the way, I married Sherry Kay Fuller in June 1972. Kay had a 3 year old son (Robert Allen) whom I adopted. Later we had 2 daughters (Elizabeth Kaye) and (Jennifer Ashley). Kay and I divorced in 1997. I moved to Birmingham, AL. In 2002, I became partners with Greta Lee Mulkey Pickett and have been together ever since.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Charles by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share DNA with Charles:

Hello Charles --

We've made a change in how the tutorials are sent to new members. Instead of weekly messages you can now work at your own pace.

How is it going so far? Have the How-Tos been helpful or left you with questions?

We want to help! Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

PS Sometimes links don't work in emails. You can always find a link that works in the public comments on your profile.

You may have been hard at work getting connected to family members who are already here and adding those who were missing. You probably have at least a few profiles that you manage now.

There's a fast and easy way to access those profiles using the Watchlist. So, this week we're going to look at How to Manage Your Watchlist.

Please let one of us know if you have questions! Sometimes links don't work in emails. If that's happened to you, check the public comments on your profile. The links will work from there.

Thanks, WikiMessenger Cindy

Charles

You've been here for several weeks now! We hope your profiles are coming together and you've enjoyed getting to know us a little better.

You're getting a good feel for the collaborative nature of WikiTree by now and collaboration isn't always easy. So, we've put together a few pointers that can make working in this type of environment a little easier: How to be a Successful WikiTreer.

Questions?? Just ask! If the above link does not work from your email, please go to your profile in the public comments and it will work from there.

Thanks, Cindy

PS-Good work so far! Have you noticed on ancestor profiles on bottom right is "Research" where you can get sources and more information? Give it a try!

It's time for your next stop on the guided tour!

This week, we'd like to show you How to Join in the Community. There's no shortage of opportunities to get involved through social media, our forum, and projects.

Be sure to check out the One Name Studies Project to see if anyone has started a project for one of the surnames in your family. Don't see one? Follow the instructions for starting your own!

Please let me know if you have questions. :-) If the above link does not work from your email, please go to your profile in the public comments and it will work from there.

Thanks, WikiMessenger Cindy

Charles--

You've been here a week now, and we hope you enjoyed your first stop on your guided tour of WikiTree and were able to make good use of the things you learned.

Our next stop will give you some pointers on how to make your profiles stand out: How to Edit a Profile.

As always, your questions are welcome!

Welcome Charles!

You are now a confirmed member, and you can get started adding your family members. As we've said, WikiTree is quite different from other genealogy sites. So, we've put together a guided tour to help you learn how to use it. Your first stop is How to Start Climbing Our Tree.

Tomorrow, you'll hear from a Mentor who will check in to see how you're doing and answer any questions you might have.

Next week, you'll get another message with your next stop on the guided tour.

You can also meet some of our members by joining in the fun with our Question of the Week in the G2G forum: Do you have a French connection?

See you in the branches, Cindy

Hi Charles!

Welcome to WikiTree! Be sure to take a look at the link in the email you just got. It has important information to help you get started. :-)

WikiTree is different than other genealogy websites because our goal is to have one profile per person, and that means we share ancestors and work together as a BIG collaborative team! And it is completely FREE!

If you are interested in sharing your research and want to collaborate to add your family, first confirm your email address. Then please fill out the Tags on your profile page and click Save Tags and Volunteer.

Once you volunteer, one of our Greeters will confirm your membership, and you'll be able to add your family to the tree!

Thanks, Cindy

Charles is 20 degrees from Frederick Douglass, 21 degrees from Margaret Summitt and 18 degrees from Henry VIII of England on our single family tree. Login to find your connection.
