Biography

Edgar Allen Wright was born in April 1855 to Absalom Wright and Polly Chatham in Indiana.

In the 1860 United States Census, he was living in Marion Township, Putnam, Indiana. The household included his parents, Absalom (age 35) and Mary (34) and their children Josephine (9), Franklin P. (7), Edison A. (6), and Omar C. (1). All born in Indiana. Absalom was a farmer with real estate value of $1560, and personal assets of $1922. [1]

In the 1870 United States Census, the Wright family lived on their farm in Floyd Township, Putnam, Indiana. All members of the household were born in Indiana. The household included (Absalom) Franklin Wright, 45, a farmer, with $5000 in real estate and $1436 in personal estate; his wife Mary, 42; their children, EGER (Edgar), 15, farm laborer and in school; Onan (Omar) C., 11, in school; Robert, 8, in school; Harriet, 6; Julia, 2; and Carrie, an infant.[2]

He married Sarah L. Blakeslee [3] on August 9, 1883 in McPherson, Kansas.[4] Their children were:

He died, at the age of 70, on October 30, 1925 in Oklahome. He is buried at the Fairlawn Cemetery in Oklahoma City, Oklahom.a[7]

Research Notes

According to multiple records, his name at birth is Edgar Allen Wright. But, as with all older documents, his first name is misspelled as Egar, Edison, Edson, etc. His marraige records lists him as Edgar A. Wright.
