Jesse was born about 1768. He passed away after 1850.
According to census records, Jesse had a large family. His children are sometimes identified in census records, and some are identified as his through proximity. It also seems likely Jesse was married more than once, perhaps twice, perhaps even three times.
His wife is often identified on various internet genealogy sites as Louvicie Grant, a Cherokee Indian. As I have found no documentation for this person, she does not have a profile as yet. Additionally, no one named Wright is included in the 1851 or 1852 censuses of Cherokee Indians East of the Mississippi in Gilmer co. GA, which makes me doubt that Jesse's wife (whatever her name) was Cherokee at all.
In the 1820 census, Jesse has 5 boys under 10 and 2 girls under 10, along with his wife. Four of the five boys may be Alfred (born 1818), Thomas (born between 1810-1820), Harrison (born about 1816-20), and John (born about 1819). Thomas and John are both living near Jesse in the 1840 census. The two girls are almost certainly Jesse's daughters Eleanor and Elizabeth.
In 1830, Jesse's household now has 3 boys under 5, 1 boy aged between 5 and 10, 2 young males aged between 10 and 15, one young man aged between 15 and 20, Jesse himself, two little girls under 5, one girl between 5 and 10, one girl between 10 and 15, and an adult woman (presumably Jesse's wife). Twelve-year-old Alfred is probably one of the boys, with Thomas and John being the older boys. Allen is presumably one of the younger boys, and Reuben may have been an infant or toddler. The two littlest girls should be Narcissa and Nancy, while Caroline is probably five or six years old.
There is an 8-year-old Martha Wright listed as having died in March of unknown causes in the 1850 Gilmer co. GA mortality schedule. I do not know if Martha is Jesse's daughter or granddaughter.
There's a Jesse Wright in the 1810 Warren co. NC census who may be this Jesse. That man has a household of 2 boys under 10, 1 male 16-26, 1 male 45+, 1 girl under 10, 1 girl 10-16, 1 woman 45+. This seems to be the same Jesse Wright who married Mary Findley in Warren co., 25 Oct 1796. There is no one by that name on the 1811 tax list for Warren co., so he either died or had moved.
One researcher identifies Jesse Wright in the 1810 Cabarrus co. NC census. But having looked at the census page, I am not sure the surname is Wright, even allowing for variants of spelling. It appears to say Whitaker or something similar. Even more telling is that a Wm. Wright is listed just above this entry, with the surname clearly legible. So it seems unlikely the census taker was unable to spell Wright.
