Biography

Emigrated to New Zealand Teachers Unmarried

Research Notes

Jennie was born 18 July 1903. Her brother William remembered: 'One Sunday afternoon when I was three there was a violent thunderstorm while we were at Sunday School and when we reached home along the wet pavements we found a nurse in the house and a new baby sister upstairs with our mother. We never had any warning or suspicion of such happenings. That was Jennie 's arrival in July 1903. Later, my little sister Jennie was always very fond of animals and Smut, Minet (cats), a canary and a pet tortoise are remembered. She caught 'flu in 1918 and had to have an operation for an ear complication and returned home very pale. She went to Romford High School and then embarked on studying the violin and piano but had to give that up due to a strain injury. She then read Classics at Bedford College (London University), became a teacher and taught Latin in Jersey Ladies College, then at Leicester and at Parkstone (Dorset), She took a year out to visit New Zealand and take an external BD of London University, gaining First Class Hons. She returned to became Head of RE at Parkstone Girls Grammar School.
Jennie was an ardent pacifist and an Anglican. When she retired, she emigrated to New Zealand to join Olive and died in Waikenae on 23 Dec 1992,
