Biography

Harry Wright was born on June 30th 1902 in St Helens. He was the son of Robert Wright and Winifred (Vose) Wright. His birth was registered in the third quarter of 1902, in Prescot district.

By April 2nd 1911, the family were still living in St Helens, and Robert was in the same job. Harry's brother Walter, aged 17, was working as an apprentice bricklayer. The other children were too young to be working. The family had a boarder, Eva Forrest, who was working as a machinist.

The photograph of Robert, Harold and Harry is said to be from about 1910, but Harold was only born in 1909, and looks to be about four in the photo, so a date of around 1913-4 seems more likely. It might perhaps (if the date is late enough) have been taken so that Walter could have a photograph of them to take with him when he enlisted and left home.

Harry's brother Walter joined the South Lancashire Regiment during the First World War, and died in 1918.

Harry worked at the Pilkington Glass factory in St Helens. He married Emily Howard in 1927 at St Thomas' Church in Eccleston, St Helens (Anglican).

Harry died in 1947 in St Helens, aged 44.

Emily died on June 12th 1993, at her home, 20 Ellison Drive, St Helens.
