Biography

Robert lived from 1737-1818 in New York.

Said to be a Private in a NY battalion, perhaps in Captain Roger's 5th Westchester Co NY Batallion circa 1760. Another possibility (or perhaps these are the same person?) is a Robert Wright who served with Colonel Henry Ludington (1739–1817) who was the commander of the 7th Regiment of the Dutchess County Militia, a volunteer regiment of local men who fought in the Battle of Ridgefield in April, 1777, during the American Revolutionary War.

Robert is mentioned in a Dutchess Co deed in 1811[3]

Transcription of will[4] The last Will and Testament of Robert Wright of the Town of Carmel County of Putnam & state of New York -- Robert Wright considering the uncertainty of this mortal life and now being of sound mind and memory ( Blessed be Almighty God for the same ) do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following viz First direct that my body shall be buried in Christian like manner . Item I direct my Executors herein after named out of my personal Estate to pay all my just debts them whereas my eldest son Ebenezer Wright is dead I give to his Heirs nothing as gave to him in his life time his proportion of my Estate Item To my son Isaac Wright I give nothing as I gave him his proportion of my Estate . Them To my son Solomon I give nothing as I have given him his proportion of my Estate Item to my son William Wright his heirs and Assigns forever I give the farm on which I now live containing about eighty Acres of Land and being on what is commonly called the Morris Lot also my set of blacksmith tools . Item to my son Robert Wright his Heirs and Assigns forever I give forty Acres of Land on the Northeast corner of the Farm purchased of John Brower and to extend to the Road subject the charge of the said of the Land Item to my son William Wright his Heirs and Assigns forever I give the remainder and residue of the - Brown Farm in addition to the bequest before made being two hundred and twelve times of Land with this condition that whereas there is an obligation given Henry Lent Henry Lent and John Lent on which remain due four hundred and eleven dollars and fifty Cents if this money is or can be obtained without any difficulty and be for the benefit of my son - Daniel Wright his Heirs and Assigns forever then my son William is to execute a Deed in fee to Daniel of one hundred times of from the South part of the Bran Farm Joining the west side of the money cannot be attained the the fee of the Land is to remain in William in case the Money cannot be obtained on the above nam ed obligation and applied to the benefit of Daniel then direct that my Executors sell the above named part of the Brower Famer devised to William and make an equal divided betwixt my Daughters Sanah Beyea Wife of John Beyea, Polly Mabie Wife of Jeremiah Mabie , Rachel Haight the life of Samuel Haight Johannah - Vermily Wife of Edward Vermily and Ruth Olmsted and Daniel Wright their Heirs and Assigns forever that of the one hundred and sixty two Stines which is the remainder of the Brower Farm after deducting fifty Acres for William which is subject to no change also direct my Executors to make sale of what part of the said that can be reasonably sponed to gather with money is due me & pay for the said of the said Land and furthermore direct the several divisions which is to be made the his in above named not to be paid over to them not until four years after the date of this instrument if not then paid subject to Interest Item I give to my son Daniel Knight fifty acres of Land of from the South part of the Bowen Farm provided the condition above written is complied with as it respects the obligation before mentioned subject to no change them the James Shield Farm so Called I direct to be equally divided belivest my son William Robert and Daniel the money note said until four years from this date Item I give in addition to my Daughter Ruth Olmsted the one equal half of my household furniture such as beds beding & c. 8 C Item I give to my son Daniel the other equal half of my house hold furniture as above stem I do hereby appoint my beloved son William Wright and my son in law John Beyer Executors to this my last Will and Testame out hereby revoking all former Wills by me made in - Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twelfth day of may one thousand eight hundred and eighteen Robert Wright signed sealed published and declared by the above named Testator Robert Wright to be his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who have hereunto Subscribed our names as Witnesses in the presence of each other and in the presence of the Testator Richard S Barlon Aaron Picket John Baldwin the son Be it rembered that on the twenty first day of May one thousand eight hundred and eighteen -- personally appeared before me Joel Frost Surrogate of the said County Richard S Barlow who on his oath declared that he did see Robert Wright sign and seal the annexed written Instrument pur parting to be the Will of the said Robert Wright bearing date the twelfth day of May one thou sand eight hundred and eighteen and heard him publish and declare the same as and for his last Will and Testament that at the time thereof he the said Robert Wright was of sound disposing mind and memory to the best of the knowledge and belief of him the Deponant and that Aman Picket John Baldwin and this Deponant severally subscribed the Will as Witness thereto in the Testators presence Joel Frost
