David was born in 1826 in New York. He was the son of Joseph Wright.
He married Nancy jane Spry on December 18, 1845 in Knox County, Ohio.[1] They had seven children.
In 1850, the family lived in Monroe Township, Knox County, Ohio, where he worked as a blacksmith.[2] By 1860, the family lived in Martinsburg, Clay Township, Knox County, Ohio, where he continued to work as a blacksmith.[3]
On August 11, 1862, he enlisted in the 96th Regiment, Company B, of the Ohio Infantry as a private for the Union army of the Civil War. The regiment rendezvous at Camp Delaware, then marched through Kentucky, Tennessee, and, finally, went "down river" to Louisiana.[4][5]
He died of Typhoid fever on January 24, 1863, while in Louisiana.
