Biography

William Wright was born about 1782, in South Carolina, United States.

William, age 68, appears in the 1850 Federal census as head of household, in Pike County, Alabama. Also in the household is his wife Jane, age 64; son's, James, age 29; John, age 27; and William age 25; and daughter Caroline, age 22; and a child Catharine, age 6.

William, age 77, appears in the 1860 Federal census as head of household, in Pike County, Alabama. Also in the household is his wife Jane age 75; and son William W., age 33; and Martha C. Franklin, age 17.

William died in 1861, in Pike County, Alabama. William died intestate without a Will. William's wife Jane petitioned the court in August, 1861 for a life estate and her dower. Listed in the petition as the only heirs of William Wright were: son George W. Wright, of Butler County, Alabama; son W.W. Wright of Pike County, Alabama; son John Wright of Montgomer County, Alabama; daughter A. King, wife of Wiley King of Pike County, Alabama; daughter Caroline Dumfree, wife of C. Dumfree of Butler County, Alabama; and Alice, Ross, Thomas & John Wright minor heirs of J.H. Wright dec'd all living with their mother Eliza Wright in Pike County, Alabama.

RESEARCH NOTES: William Franklin Wright (Wright-11777) is not the son of William Wright and Jane Gruny Wright, based on the heirs listed in the intestate probate estate records of William Wright filed in Pike County, Alabama Probate Court, in 1861.
