Mary-Anne Elizabeth Wroe was born in Southwark in 1869 and christened on 20 May. She was the daughter of James Wroe and Elizabeth Thornton. [1]
The Wroe family immigrated to Melbourne in 1869 when Mary Anne was not yet one. They sailed on the Tenobia from Plymouth and arrived in Port Phillip on 29 May 1869. They are recorded as James (27), draper’s assistant; Elizabeth M (29); Alfred H (5); William J (2); and Mary A. E (infant). [2] Elizabeth’s parents, James and Mary Thornton, are also recorded.
Mary Ann died on 3 March 1870, aged just one. [3] She is buried in Melbourne General cemetery. [4]
