Sergeant Shadrach Wroten served with Delaware Militia during the American Revolution.

Shadrack Wroughten (spelled Shredrick Wroten on his military tombstone and Shedrick with the SAR), was born 28 November 1763 Church Creek, Dorchester Parish, Dorchester, Maryland, probably the son of Thomas Wroten (spelled Wroughten on his birth record) and his wife Rachel Wheatley (surname not given on birth record).[1][2] He grew up on the border between Maryland and Delaware.

Shredrick Wroten was a Revolutionary War soldier who served five years and six months, attaining the rank of sergeant (probably of the Continental Army).[3]

Shedrick served as a sergeant in Company D, in the Delaware Militia, he served a total of five years and 6 months but the units he served in can not be identified. [4]

He married and had children:

  • Rachel Wroten (?-1871), married a Jamison[2]
  • Eleanor Wroten (1784-1856), married Ananias Timmons[5][6][2]
  • Elizabeth Wroten (?-1860), married a Goldsberry[6]
  • Keziah Wroten ( 1781–1866), married a Willis
  • Nathan Wroten (1791-?)
  • Laban Wroten (1801–1886)

He (surname spelled Roton) married again to Mary Ann Forbes in Ross County, Ohio, on 2 June 1825, and had:

  • Shadrach C Wroten ( 1836–1862)

He was enumerated on the 1800 census in the North West Fork Hundred, Sussex County, Delaware as Shadrach Rotton, with 3 males and 1 female under 10 years old, 2 females aged 10-15 and 1 male and 1 female aged 26-44.[7]

Shadrach moved from Delaware to Ross County, Ohio about 1806. He appears on the 1826 tax lists with one horse and one cow being taxed.
