Biography

The most accurate way to describe my great-grandfather is that he was a reprobate. He was a gambler and an alcoholic, yet beloved by most of his children, especially after they were adults, no longer dependent on him to make sure they were properly fed and clothed. He had some grand ideas, one of which survives him--the Wurts ditch, located near Leadville, Colorado, now used to quench the insatiable thirst of Colorado's eastern slope megalopolis (Tennessee Pass).
